Optimism
I just finished reading a book "Emotional Intelligence" by Daniel Goleman. The book basically talked about how IQ is not the only thing that determines success. How one should be aware of their own emotions and also emotions of people they are dealing with. How the emotionally intelligent ones are good at pulling themselves up and moving on. But when I really narrow down what the entire book said and all that I know of life through my experience, the word 'optimism' bubbles out of it all. The chances of successfully living each day of life without going insane or being depressed highly depends on the variable 'optimism' and how much you feel it.
It’s okay to be depressed. It’s okay to be demoralized. It is okay to feel life is not fair. This is all a part of being a human. But one must consciously remind themselves of the sun after the rain or the day after the night. One must look at happiness and sorrow as an unplanned cycle of emotions. Or tell me, how else you would go on.
In the story of Pandora’s Box, when all the evil was released in the world, it seemed like the world would die. But then the fairy called ‘hope’ came out from the same box and the world continued to live. So no matter how much darkness around, all that is needed is a thought of hope, strong enough to take the step of lighting a single match. Another way to look at the brighter side is by just going back in time and recalling how the last bad situation ended and life went on.
Only when one is happy and feeling positive, best solutions pop out. When you are tensed or fearful, you are at a greater risk to make the wrong decision or come up with some ‘not the best’ solution. So not only is optimism required to come out of situations, it is actually the best way to go on!
